Wakefield Parent Partnership, Canterbury Children's Center, and North Suburban Child & Family Resource Network are pleased to host Dr. Kevin Nugent, an international expert on infant-parent communication, to present on "The Language of Babies." Dr. Nugent is a child psychologist and the director of the Brazelton Institute at Children's Hospital Boston. He is also co-author of the book Your Baby is Speaking to You: A Visual Guide to the Amazing Behaviors of Your Newborn and Growing Baby with photographer Abelardo Morell.
Dr. Nugent will discuss the history of how research involving babies has developed and changed over the last 50 years. He will talk about the importance of using tools, such as the Neonatal Behavioral Observation Scale, to help professionals and caretakers better understand babies' strengths and needs, facilitate communication, and promote bonding between babies and caretakers. He will also discuss strategies that can help caretakers and parents cue into babies' temperaments, levels of alertness, and nonverbal cues, which in turn can help strengthen the bonds between babies and caretakers.
Online registration is closed, but walk-ins are welcomed.
